The Postitives of the 'Credit Crunch'

Okay, okay, so every one's crying: 'Oh no! I'll lose my job! or Oh no! Bread is a few pence too much for me!' But it seems that no one has looked at the positives. I too at first hadn't realised how great this news is to the stationary hauder or general cheapskate, like myself.
One word: WOOLWORTH'S.
Have you been recently?
As soon as you enter you are greeted by huge '50% OFF EVERYTHING'. This to me, is brilliant.
As most people in the English speaking world know that Woolworth's has gone bankrupt, now, this is applauding for the workers especially at Christmas of all times, but for the average shopper that doesn't work there, it's a God send. At a time when everything seems a little more expensive than they remember this is a nice little gift for Christmas. So of course, I took advantage and purchased stationary and some Mentos and some Fruit Pastels. The queue was long- but it was worth it : )
Oh and the Brixton MK One is having a liquidation sale, so every thing's pretty cheap there too.

Today I Sung At A Wedding

As the title says, I did sing at a wedding today, with the school choir. It was the wedding of 'Handy' as their combined name is lol. Now, I am quite the sceptic when it comes to marriage and seeing as my friends are convinced that I will definately marry now that I have said that I do not want to, I decided that it'll be good to note down some of my views on it and see what I think in years from now.
My thoughts on marriage:
1. I take it very seriously, as a Catholic I believe that it is a sacrament, and as it is in the Bible, a time in which the man and woman become 1 person in Christ's eyes and therefore can't divorce. Now I as I never want to divorce, I'm less likely to if I don't marry at all.
2. If humans always make mistakes, how are they supposed to know who is 'the one' for them? Because if you can't divorce you therefore cannot technically be forgiven like in confession and then have a clean slate afterwards. I don't understand how a person can tell, I mean it's not like they get visions from God telling them, that it is 'the one'.
3. You are stuck with this person, even if you both have gotten over the fact that you may have different views on some things, once you're married you'll probably find it alot harder to getting to a mutual agreement.
4. People change over time. That's just life, who's to say that in 10 years time you'll still both get along when you perhaps become influenced by different things and therefore changes your personality, e.g. Am I still the same person I was 5 years ago?... No. And because you've promised to stay by them no matter what, you have to try and put up with the person, even if you can't stand them anymore because you promised God. Marriage is supposed to complete you and make you happier, but in the long run... will it?
5. I'm not keen on having kids. Well, I'm not, as I want to become Mayor of London... there's not much time for children in my shedule. And you know that the husband would at some point get a bit vexed about it... even though they aren't the ones going to hell and back through pregnancy... and then there's the actual labour...
6. Apparently, everyone changes when they are married... it might be for the better... or the worse.
7. There are too many variables to make things go wrong- why risk it?
8. If they really love you then why can't they respect your wishes? If they do then maybe they are 'the one' and then you do end up marrying them anyway.

Some Ramblings

So, gale force winds and rain are sweeping the nations once again; welcome to the British Winter, it's as if Autumn never really existed. And during this time of year, everyone seems tired and angered in some way, whether it be the credit crunch or people smashing your eggs in science the doom and gloom is truly upon us once more. Because of this, I have some rants:
1. Hedonism is stupid.
Basically, it's the idea that we should live for the experience and for one's own goal... or something like that. But this is soooo dumb in a world in which beauty pageant queens constantly wish for world peace, I mean, come on! If everyone was more worried about themselves and what they gain from anything we would be even further from any type of utopia than we already are, though I'm not a fan of utopia anyway.
2. Why should everything in life depend on luck?
I know not everything depends on it, but the majority of anything in this world is based on lottery. E.g. Being born into a good, whole and rich family; Not getting cancer; Being intelligent. These are all things that in life we have no control over. That's just not fair.
...Okay maybe in a way it is but that is quite hard to explain.

The woes of AOL helplines and Sarah Palin.

I haven't written in a while, seeing as my ancient computer has been infected by a terrible virus, resulting in me paying... £47! To get it fixed, which was from my own college fund; and then to make it worse, my AOL modem decided to break afterwards, which led me to calling (the not so freephone) AOL helpline- which was NO HELP. Honestly, if you ever have a problem with your connection, just select option 1 and tell them you're getting a divorce. They only sent me a new router (for free) because I wanted to move to BT Broadband, even though it would cost.... ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS to cancel the contract... what bullocks.
Any who, back to normality, school, exams, coffee... the way things should be.

Thinks that have bothered me:

1. What's all the hub-bub with Sarah Palin? I'm not American (evidently) but their politics seem to be drifting into my life, esp. in Spectator magazine, or on the news. Of course, it is to be expected, the US is after all the most powerful nation on the Earth economically wise etc, but even the polices that do not technically affect me, seem to really get my goat. Now this is really my problem with her idea of teaching creationism in schools, I mean it's bad enough that they all pledge allegiance to their flag, why add the extra conformity of telling people what to think on a religious basis? In my ROMAN CATHOLIC school, I have to learn about the big bang and evolution; even though I do actually believe that God made these two evens happen, strictly speaking I shouldn't, nor should I have to learn about it as if I do. However these two theories are based on fact, evidence, and therefore can be treated as mere facts to write in an exam, just to pass the grade, but creationism, in my view is completely different, as it is more of a belief, and can't physically be proved as highly likely facts. This to me, makes it harder for someone of another religion being forced to learn about something they have no belief in, and thereby makes the idea from the Republicans quite foolish. Though I hope that due to my non American-ness, I merely mis read that this idea was actually put forward, because I think it's a bit of an insult to the American institution to say that it is the 'land of the free' when your children do not have the 'freedom' to not learn someone else's religion (as their own) for an exam.

2. The Anti Shoe is GAY (www.theantishoe.com). It's a nice idea, they want to keep our joints healthy and supple, but come on! If humanity has lasted God only knows how long without the glory of a stupid looking, though admittedly clever shoe, I think it'll do just fine without it.

3. Is it me, or is there an endless supply of unattractive people sleeping with other unattractive people then arguing about it, and then going on The Jeremy Kyle Show to whine about it? Okay, so I sound extremely shallow at this moment in time, but hasn't anyone else noticed it? In everyday life (and I don't live a posh one) I see lots of okay looking people, so how come suddenly all these not so great looking people end up on the show, yet the nice looking ones are in the audience? What is this show? Some sort of circus? And for some obscure unknown reason, most of the stories I've seen on it are about people cheating on their partners, or not knowing the paternity of their child/ children; can't these people purchase protection? It's not like the benefits that tax payers pay for can't cover protection, or I dunno... maybe they could hmm... Get a job?

One thing that hasn't bothered me:

Roswell! Good on E4 for providing the repeats of the American Hit series, while there's nothing on the television on a weekend morn, E4 have seized the opportunity to show good old fashioned teen drama... with aliens.

Choices

In this week's episode of Doctor Who (which was brilliant) Donna, a person who seemed to be just about as unimportant and mundane as the rest of us, lost in a sea of billions of people on this planet, managed to determine the fate of the rest of the universe- just by turning left. It sort of highlights the idea that every little thing we do can have great ratifications on the rest of the world, because seeing as we're all in this sea of people, we have a way of effecting other people everyday. An it's like a chain reaction, once one person does something, like turning down one road instead of another, they affect what another person does, whihc effects someone else, etc...
But, I know that this doesn't mean that if I go a different way to school, for example, it doesn't have to mean that othat action ends up with someone else saving the world. But it could... there is that chance.
It sort of makes you wonder what the world would be like if you did some things differently... and then it sort of reminds you thateven if things are particularily great, it could be alot worse really. Of course it could be better, but things are at a sort of balance, there's crime, hate etc but there's also so much love and kindness that just doesn't get enough press, when on the news normally it's the faluts of politians or wars in forgein places instead of the good things hat happen all over the world. Like, Bill Gates gives some of his profits to charritees, but I only heard that yesterday, when he's been doing this for years, yet it's more likely for me to hear how they are rivals with google etc. And you hear about how teenagers today in places like London are all out of contol, and yes I admit, I've seen some crap, but I mean... we're not all like that. It actually rather depressing to see what the world is turning into, and part of it, is this ideathat one person doesn't matter. It's like we've been programmed to have this belief that one person can't change the world. Like oh, I'm not going to turn off the water when I'm brushing my teeth, one person won't make a difference, not when someone else will do it anyway. *shakes head* nothing will change if everyone keeps thinking that.
So make your choices wisely, don't fall into this trap. Even I've done it, but we should all try.
Sorry if this post sounds a bit preachy :S

A reason for listening to countless film critics

THE HAPPENING

What actually happens in the Happening?
I’ll tell you what.
Nothing.
The whole thing is a waste of money, honestly. However jacked up the cinema prices are getting (I paid £8, that’s right- eight whole of my pounds) do not even bother wasting your money.
Do not believe the lies that are the very well made advertisements and trailers for this film. They say it’s a horror, the most scary ever made by its creator M. Night something or other; the bloke who did The Sixth Sense. The Happening did not top it- not by a very, very long shot. I spent half the time with my fingers over my glasses, believing that maybe, just maybe something terrifying would happen- but it never did. No wait- there was this old lady in it that gave me the ‘heebie jeebies’ but other than that, it was more messed up than anything else. I also found the whole aim of the film a little dodgy: respect trees/ the environment. That was the whole point.
What were we supposed to be scared of?
The wind.
Yes, you heard (well, read) correctly.
Wind.
And no, I don’t mean a massive fart either.
‘Run away from the wind!’ someone screams, and so they do… *gasp* and nothing happens. That was dumb. Near the end, when you think, okay, one of these ‘principle’ characters were going to die, they step out into the ‘wind’ and guess what… nothing happens! Conveniently, the spores in the wind stopped just as they left the house. Now that pissed me off- what rubbish.
And the conclusion to the entire film was spelled out to you, because for some it was too obvious, or to others the whole film made no sense at all. Looks like there needs to be a seventh sense just to get this nonsense.
I have to admit, there are moments (and I mean MOMENTS) of actual horror, but the majority were just disturbing. People hanging from trees: Disturbing, not scary… just disturbing. People killing themselves… it’s not scary, it’s sick (and I don’t mean sick as in ‘cool’). That writer has problems, and he’s there proclaiming the so called ‘greatness’ of his creation (which is a bit like a Film Frankenstein) on the misleading advertisements, as if he, himself has something to be proud of by making that film.

All M. Night something or other has accomplished has been:

  1. Wasting my money.
  2. Wasting my time.
  3. Wasting his, and the film company’s money.
  4. Lying to the world.
  5. Making himself look like an idiot.
  6. And proving that he has problems and that he needs a phyciatrist.

An Apology To those who are Gay

Sorry.
I have this funny little habit of calling everything 'gay' these days.
E.g.
Wow that's so gay!
Or
That dude is GAY.

For this, I am sorry.

But I'm not sorry for this:
You're as gay as Steven!

'Cause, 1. It's a character.
2. He's in denial.
3. He's a crazy physco.
4. I can't even spell physco anyway, and the spell checker freezes this computer... well nearly everything does anyway...

The Mockery of the Mock Exams

GCSEs
THE PERSON THAT MAKES OCR GCSEs SHOULD HAVE AN ANGRY LETTER WRITTEN TO THEM.
Why?
Observe:
Why use percentages to show results?
Tick the correct answer:
Percentages are more scientfic.
Everyone knows what a percentage is.
There was a difference in results from each table.

Guess which one was correct...

EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT A PERCENTAGE IS! WHAT SORT OF RUBBISH IS THIS? THIS IS NOT A SCIENCE EXAM! THIS IS A NONSENSE EXAM.

After taking a OCR Mock Science Exam, there is alot left to be desired, there's no point even revising, because the questions have no real association to the information in the revision guides or textbooks in class.
Another great fault with this exam board is that the questions- as I have previously stated, are not scientfic at all. I'm sorry but at what authority can one say that 'Everyone knows what a percentage is'? Are these people so ignorant they can't even realise that there are people in the world that can't even read? Oh so they don't know what is meant by 'the cat sat on the mat' (in writing) but they know percentages. What fools!
Also, they ask us questions on things that aren't even in that part of the syllabus; at what point did we learn about 'half lives' and 'plutonium' I know these terms, but that does not mean that I can use it to calculate this, that and the other.
In addition, there are far too many of those A,B,C,D,E or F questions. There are too ambiguious to show any true answer, or true knowledge of the subject at hand. As well as that, these questions are really hypothetical, I mean, it's full of 'he thinks', 'they think', 'suggest' what ever happened to science being about true facts and definitions, isn't it about finding the 'why' about the world? Not 'what it could be'.

Now. The second paper.
HOW IS A COMPREHENSION SCIENCE?
How is a comprehension with questions that do not have the answers in the text, science?
How can the school actually manage to give around 60 girls a text booklet filled with a repeat of the question sheets?
So many questions so little ranting time, I'm going to watch the Apprentice on BBC1.

Do You Know What Really 'grinds my gears'?

I hate shopping malls. I hate the fact that it's all fake, well in the sence that, those calming fountains and air conditioning isn't to make you feel cool whilst shopping in the summer, it's there because some 'tests' have shown that people spend more money there. The whole thing is engineered to make us spend more, it's everywhere, even the layout of a shop can decide what we're more likely to purchse. Now that really 'grinds my gears' (nicked off Family Guy) . I was in Croydon this week, and because it was the Easter Holidays for some, I saw many teen slags in the shopping mall. Now, I know what your thinking, 'teen slags'? What are these may I ask? Well, these to me, are those girls that are my age, with lots of make up caked on their faces, in 'cool' clothes and hanging around in groups with those large handbags dangling on their elbow, with their hair fried into a straight style; well either that or it's soaking wet looking a bit naff. Anyway, they hang around looking like slappers, yet they still manage to walk into those shops like, Zara and Wallis and go, 'OMG' at something dumb, like a pair of shoes at are £30 and are like stilts... It's like HELLO? THERE'S MORE TO LIFE THAN CLOTHES AND BLOKES! And what really 'grinds my gears' is the fact that the parents don't really care, they give their children too much money to spend. The sort of clothes in those clothes shops seem to be aimed at those who have the money to spend on clothes that prevent them from doing work, yet they still have more money than those who have to work those dreadful 9- 5 hours. At what point is this right or fair or... even able to make sence?

All in all, what 'grinds my gears' are those posh girls that have more money than sence.

N.B. I'm sure they aren't all like that... or are they?

Working toward expected standard.

This year school holidays are just... EVERYWHERE, right now, I'm in my first week of it, the second day infact: and I am bored. Well, I've sat in my bedroom with the curtains closed for 2 days now, so what could anyone really expect? However, I've been revising for my exams, and have kept myself busy. Thanks to my little freeview box, I have been listening to brilliant music:
Madonna ft JT and Timberland - 4 Minutes
A good song, but I hate one line: 'We've only got four minutes to save the world'... I'm sorry, is this a song or a theme tune to some rubbish cartoon on at 6am on a Saturday which no body watches?
Kylie Minogue- In your Arms
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GcE5QCMksvI
So 80s , so summer like and just beautiful!
Sam Sparro- Black and Gold
Smooth and addictive! I irritated alot of people singing that, including my mathamatics teacher. " Wickeeee maybe you du nott realise how loud you are."
Kanye West- Flashing Lights
Awesome song, sounds great... shame about the video. It can't be played fully on TV, because of the murder in it... what a shame. What I don't get is how come they can't show someone being hit by a shovel, from a distance (so you don't actually see it) but they can show a woman with such skimpy lingere that when she walks; her bossoms juggle and her butt shakes... THAT IS DISGUSTING. And sexist. Yet they show that part. Click on the link below to see the video, btw, you watch it at your own discression, if you don't like it don't have a go at me or something.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-a--Pc7R8PU&NR=1

Moving off the topic of Music, my school has insisted that everyone does work expirence- when we're too young for most jobs. It is such an obvious way of avoiding having to take my year on activities week, the school's so cheap it couldn't afford it- even though we have to pay for most things anyway. The school that is supposed to be an Eco school, spends hundreds of pounds on paper that is pointlessly used, especially in Science... tut tut tut. How dumb. There's going to be a wormary at my school now aswell. Ha! The girls at my school would scream if they saw any worms! Seriously, the majority are such a stereotype.
Yeah, work expirence; I got this placement with the government, and I'm supposed to phone them to arrange and interview; weeks it has taken me to try and get through, and still nothing. Though now, the husband and wife I am to be working for 'are on holiday' for two weeks. TWO WEEKS. My mother only gets that like once a year... No wonder the government is in such a dodgy state, they keep going on holiday.

DOCTOR WHO IS BACK!!!!!!!!
And as great as ever may I add, it seems that Donner has more depth to her than trivia; and it seems that she is alot like me. Haha, if anyone saw it, the office scene was just jokes... haha "Am I interupting you?" If you have no idea about what I'm writing about, go on youtube.com, search for doctor who partners in crime, and you should hopefully find it. What brilliant writing by Russel T Davies.

Lastly, I would like to add, a cheer for those protesting about the Tibet thing. Though I think you lot should do it in a less violent way, the Olympics aren't about Tibet, they are about unity and sport. Find another way!!

Where's Panic's Panic!?/ Emo Is Dead. Muhahaha.

Okay, so I'm a little bit hyper right now... but whatever, after reading my friend's blog I have decided to write a new post, seeing as I haven't in ages. Hmmmm, what could I talk about... Music is something interesting right now, well when isn't it? Good music that I've heard recently are:(I put the titles before the bands, backwards, I know)
Cassius- Foals (Sounds like Hummer and just as addictive)
Make Love Listen to Death From Above- CSS (I'm not sure if that's the right title :S)
We are Rockstars- Does it offend you, yeah? (Good for a party)
Nine in the Afternoon- Panic at the Disco.

Now, I hear you: 'Where's Panic's Panic!?' Well, they got fed up of having to explain why the exclaimation mark is there, which is pretty understandable, though the ! was awesome. The cynical band of theratrical proportions has transformed and grown up into a happy and more welcoming bunch. Their new song is also awesome and shows that their musical skills have managed to surpass all expectations of 'Fever...' Mk 2. They also reflect the growing alienation of EMO. It's gone. There are of course still the few 'hardcore' ones (Is it even possible to be a hardcore hardcore?), but overall the fad of suicide, drugs (or the extreme; 'straight edge') and the
'Oh my God, My live sucks, No one cares, I'm so sad!'
'Yes. You are sad.'
- has died out.
The whole thing was totally ridiculous, and I was a part of it so I know- It.Was.Stupid. There were so many with so much hope and potential who wasted so much of the most vital years of their life whining and being angry. When half them only joined in for either- the excuse for the fringe, or to go on myspace and shit. That fact that it faded out so quickly from such a high just shows how much of a passing fad it was. If you see half of them now, they are with handbags and trying to get down to grime or R&B or Pop or something, or they've decided to stop being a pussy and become an actual goth. But, I don't think that there are that many.

What's kinda sad is that in Latin, 'Emo' means 'I buy'... that's just weird.

Half term- The holiday of lies.

My view on half term (or mid term in the states... I think) is rather bleak; and this may be because I haven't got much of a socailite lifestyle. However, the whole idea of half term is false and misleading.
Half term is seen as a time (as I am told) to have a break, recharge your batteries as it were. A time in which coursework can be completed, and for those special G&T Students (which I am one of) it is a time for going on a course for a couple of days and having fun.
THIS IS NOT TRUE- or true to a certain extent.
'Recharging batteries' for me takes only one day, which involves sleeping for 12 hours, then coming online or watching TV without a care in the world. Now, I don't know about you but I can't do this for longer than a day, it get's so tedious after that.
Coursework is a pestilence which is a burden for many a teenager, most of which has no real point as it doesn't test you on anything really, just on how extra you can be with title pages and essays that could have been summed up in a page. Yet somehow during the time in which we are supposed to relax we have all these coursework deadlines suddenly pushed over our heads, that have to be completed by next week.
And even if it couldn't get any more contradicting, the G&T Courses that we are supposed to go to, to learn and have fun are so covieniently over subscribed to, so now all the G&T students at my school- apart from one person, have nothing to look forward to in the half-term.
So please, someone tell me what joys are there to be reeped from this waste of a week!

As you can see, I have had a sudden lump of time on my hands. The awfulness that as Half- Term, it's so rubbish, and somehow you are lumbered with more work during the termly holidays than the ones over larger exspances of time. Anywho, I shall finish the previous blog entry, that I had started about my friend's gammatical errors.

In der Bibliothek

So, as you have most probably deduced, I can't spell library in German (or my guess was lucky). Also you may have deduced that I haven't written any new posts in a llllooooonnnnggg time. As the title says, 'In the Library' I am at the school library during a science lesson in which we've been given the task of writing a data analysis. What utter bollocks! Seeing as I eveidently can't be arsed to do any work, I've decided to blog instead.
Today, I shall spend my time typing about Latin; because I am a fool, one who is stupid enough to take GCSE level Latin. The word 'library' comes from the Latin word 'Liber' meaning book... Okay so the Latin thing sounds a bit boring... and well it is.
Moving on...

'I don't know nothing.'
Would you look at this quote and think that there's anything wrong with it?
Look closely.

This, is a double negative sentence. DO NOT say this sentence. It makes you look dumb around nerds or really smart people..... This shall be finished later, seeing as the Teacher is making rounds, whilst complaining. And it's nearly lunch. Hmmm... Exspensive, cheap school dinners- how lovely.
